I love the fried jumbo chicken wings; could only eat two of them at dinner. Brought the rest home for lunch today.😋

The best soul food hands down!!! Porkchops tender, cabbage melts in your mouth, yams delicious and best mac and cheese! The cooks r gifted truly its home cooking !

A lot of food, and it was all good! The wings were giant. I enjoyed the cabbage. I had an entire meal to take home!

Customer service was great I had the soul seafood meal. Mac and cheese was good yams mushy fish and shrimp weee good but crab cake was imitation and salty. For my first visit here I wasn't impressed.

Went here for first time with family. We were visiting and my cousin recommended the place. Everything tasted great! Fish was fried to perfection. Normally i dont like restaurants sides but the cabbage and sweet potatoes (a little too sweet) were very tasty. They give you a nice portion as well. Will definitely recommend and will come back if I’m ever in the area again.Only reason not 5 star is because they were missing a lot if food items.

Had the Seafood Platter. I believe it was supposed to come with 4 shrimp but my husband and I each received 3. All food was delicious! Will return.

We chose this place due to the great reviews that we read but I would have to rate it as a needs improvement. The biggest flaw on here would have to be service which I'm huge on. It took a long time for someone to come take drink orders and a long time for those same orders to be filled. I don't remember one time where someone came to refresh the drinks either. The tea and lemonade were also extremely sweet where guests in our party had to water them down. They were out of a couple of menu items but I gave that a pass, it happens sometimes. The fried catfish was good and so was the cabbage, however I found the macaroni and cheese to be so salty you could barely get it's actual flavor. The corn muffin was a well received standout. With some adjustments, I think Southern Soul Cafe could be a 5 star establishment. I would start by extending the evening hours a bit because they close a bit early to be able to accommodate a true dinner crowd.

We visited the restaurant yesterday and had a great meal! It was so clean we that the restaurant was new but it has been open for almost 4 years! The staff was friendly and kind and the price was very reasonable! Thank you!

I heard so much about this place I had to come try it for myself for lunch. The cashier was super nice and took my order quickly and didnt make me feel guilty for drooling over the cake on the counter.so.. basically, I made the mistake of showing up hungry...and couldn't walk away from the cake! I'm glad I didnt because it was moist and delicious. For my entree, I ordered the crab cake sandwich. It was good - just okay though. Not the best I've had but not the worst either. (It could have used a smidge more of seasoning imo)Now.. let's talk about that mac n cheese.. it was banging! I could have eaten a plate full of that for sure. I will definitly come back to get more of that and to try a different entree.

Foodie here! Wow- this place is home-cooked goodness!! We were on our way back home from DC to NC and glad we stopped here for dinner. The service was on point from the moment you walk in until you check out. The collards are amazing, the yams are not too sweet and GOOD, the catfish is perfection, the pork chops tender...I’ll stop now! We will definitely be back! God bless! The food was incredible! The pork chops were tender and well seasoned. The greens were fresh and cooked to perfection. The yams were like dessert and the corn muffin was icing on the cake. I ate entirely too much, but will be returning! And you can't beat the price! Well worth it! The staff was soooo friendly and very welcoming. We had a great experience!

We arrive at the start of their business hours and they already didn't have enough food, were limited on food choices, only 2 desserts (no peach cobbler) and drinks. They were not accommodating. We had to repeat request multiple times before they finally did it. The decor needed updates, the bathroom was dirty, there were holes in the ceiling bathroom, for our very big party (2 long tables of friendly customers) we were offered no courtesy/complimentary bread, corn muffins, etc...not even a round of house waters. The waitress said they would charge for each muffin in a basket. The cabbage was cold and tasteless. Finally. ..look very closely at your bill for service charge of 20% so you DO NOT tip multiple times because they will not tell you but watch you write in a extra tip. For a soul food restaurant, I was disappointed.

I haven't ever been here before, so my friend took me for lunch. And let me tell you, the food is great! Everything is homemade, real mash potatoes! Best catfish I have ever ate. Cornbread sweet as can be! Diffanty a great place to go. And the ppl there is so friendly.. 😊 my new spot! 3/13/19

Amazing food and wonderful service! The best fried chicken I've ever had in a restaurant. We're from Washington state, but will be coming to Virginia and the Southern Soul Cafe many more times in the future.

*Update - The owner quickly replied to this and reached out to personally rectify the issue and wants to resolve the matter with the employee, and has invited us to come again when he is there. Very satisfied with his concerned response*Came in to eat , waiting at the hostess desk for over 10 mins. After 5 mins, a young lady came to the desk and didn’t say anything to us but “hold on”. We waited 5 more minutes and then we walked out and went somewhere else. I could not believe that we were not greeted, or at least seated at a table. There were plenty of tables available. It seemed like the hostess was having a really bad day, as she entirely ignored us and did not care to seat us. I really wanted to try out this new place. We will not be going again.

This is an excellent restaurant. Word on the street is they have the best catfish. I did not have catfish this time, but I enjoyed the meal all the same. Stop in for great conversation and amazing food. Hopefully the owner, Dominic, is there when you pop in. He is a wonderful conversationalist.

The food is good and homemade. The prices are reasonable and nice atomsphere. The staff is friendly and you feel at home.

I was expecting much better food based on the reviews. The lemonade was like syrup so everyone at my table had to add a half glass of water to that in order to drink it. The cabbage was very bland. The yams were not edible as it tasted like some weird spice was added unnecessarily. I had the chicken livers with onions and gravy that tasted like it was cooked in used fish grease...the gravy was way too thick and not very flavorful so that was not edible either. At first I thought it was me but everyone at my table had the same issues with their sides and drinks. It did take a long time for us to get our food but there was a crowd so that's understandable. They were also out of a few menu items but that's normal too. The service was good for us and I hope the food and drinks aren't always that bad. The actual atmosphere was very spacious and pleasant with nice music in the background. It's been a few weeks so hopefully things have improved.

Steak was perfect and service was outstanding. Will be back on Sunday again.

I absolutely love the food. I have eaten there on so many occasions and not once was I not satisfied. I recommend that everyone should drop by. The owner is compassionate and heaven sent. Where do you go that the owner give weekly discounts, monthly specials, accommodating space for any event, and he's always there to give a helping hand, listening ear, and friendly conversations???? Go in, eat until you're stomach is full and your heart is content.

Since we were in the south, we were expecting the food to be finger licking good but it wasn't.

The food was great, portion size was so large I had enough for lunch the next day. The only problem was the room was a little on the cold side. Overall we had a good time and the server was very attentive and personable. Definitely going back

The portions were great and left enough to take home.The prices were typical for the type of food served.Black owned businesses.Please go see for yourself.

Come on people, your "open" sign is on, its 11:20, place opens at 11:00. The young woman is inside cleaning tables, she sees us at the door but does not acknowledge us at all, even as my son knocks on the glass door. My son is special needs and diabetic so we left so he could go get food. Sadly disappointing. Maybe the cook wasnt there??? Who knows. All it would have taken was a little communication.

I was skeptical at first. You hear horror stories about soul food places being dingy and dirty. However this was the exact opposite. The place was clean and organized.The food was fantastic. I had the fried catfish. My Lord!!! Let's get this place on the map and recognized. I'm not from around here but when I'm back in town, I defiantly will be back.

We had the pleasure of satisfying our hunger at this restaurant on Sunday, April 28, 2019. The host met us when we came in the door with a friendly greeting and showed us to our seat. Within an hour, we arrived, were fed delicious meals of smothered pork chops, baked chicken, collard greens, candied yams, potato salad and corn bread. We were checked on at least four times for refills or anything further to meet our needs. The check was discreetly delivered and the person paying said, “Wow! Let’s come here every week!” Check out was just as easy and smooth as everything else had been. We were Thoroughly satisfied!

We stop here for a quick lunch based on local recommendation for southern style. The fish and chicken is crispy and juicy. I love the corn on cob so yummy! I took one ⭐️ for the crab cake — too salty — I guess just not a popular dish during noon time? Other than that, I enjoy everything.

Service is horrible. We come in and she tells us to seat ourselves when all seats are dirty. We lear her know and she says you just have to wait. So here it is 10 mins later while she chit chat at the register we still havent been seated and there is no one waiting but us. As tgey walk around past us we decide to just leave.

Spot on lunch place serving traditional soul food. Clean place, welcoming staff. Food is excellent.
